Wear your helmet—A personal plea

I was riding my three-wheeler without a helmet and showing off in front of my brothers. I thought I was so cool. My parents didn't care about a helmet, so why should I?

I had pulled up to the side of the road as instructed, then bam! An automobile hit me in the right side of the head. My life was changed forever.

My recovery was long, especially since I didn't remember how to do anything. I had to relearn to use my hands & arms. My memory and thinking skills weren’t the same either. I was no longer cool by not wearing a helmet. A helmet would have protected me. It might even have allowed me the opportunity to participate in both the Olympics & the US Air Force.

I bet you take your life for granted, don't you? I had to relearn to use my brain, which hasn't functioned as well as it used to for over 30 years. I make mistakes more today than before the accident. Things are harder and take longer. Can you afford not to wear a helmet?
