NFL Gives $1,000,000 to Study TBI

For years, the culture of sports has minimized the seriousness of concussions. Not anymore. Recently, the National Football League (NFL) put its money where its mouth is and gifted $1 million to the study the impact of multiple concussions. The gift is actually to Boston University’s School of Medicine’s Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephelopathy (CSTE). The gift is unrestricted in that the center can decide how best to spend the money.

To date the CSTE has done groundbreaking research revealing the long-term, permanent, and life-altering changes resulting from concussion in sports. Their efforts extend to better diagnosis, treatment, and, of course, prevention.
CoBI has recognized one of the founders of this project, Chris Nowinski, President & CEO, Sports Legacy Institute and Co-Director, Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at Boston University School of Medicine. Chris is also the author of Head Games: Football’s Concussion Crisis .
